*SPOILERS of the Guardians of Childhood books below*

(Quick intro story of Nightlight: ) _{Nightlight was the first guardian ever. Nightlight protected Man in the Moon, while Manny(Man in the Moon) was just a baby. 
When Pitch arose to power, Manny's parents were captured, and Nightlight flew to save them. Nightlight defeated Pitch- but at great cost. Manny was flung off into the universe on his moon ship his parents left behind, Manny's parents were no where to be found, and Nightlight was locked within Pitch's cold and dark heart. 
Pitch eventually crashed to Earth. Manny's moon came into Earth's orbit. Manny grew up and started to learn things; he had his moon-bots, lunar moths, and moon beams that took care of him. He sent out his moonbeams to watch Earth for any nightmares or signs of Pitch. One moonbeam wandered into a cave and found Pitch with a diamond dagger in his heart. The Moonbeam flew into the dagger and released Nightlight, (whom was slowly dying in Pitch's heart), however also waking up Pitch. Nightlight has a bad memory because his companion MoonBeam doesn't want him to remember the sadness of his friends dying, because Nightlight is immortal.}  

Recent/Present events: 
Nightlight recently saved Katherine from a coma of nightmares. He gives her a goodnight's kiss, and she wakes up. A goodnight's kiss given by a nightlight, will somehow effect them, somehow making them night-lights no longer. 
Nightlight was starting to feel weird after he kissed Katherine, as if his power was depleting.... 
then left a cliffhanger on the previous book of "The Sandman and the War of Dreams." 

My Theory: 
What if Nightlight is slowly dying? 
Or becoming human? a mortal? and because he is Jack's shadow in that picture... what if Manny reincarnated him to become Jackson Overland? Then Jackson dies, and Manny revives him as Jack Frost? 

I thought someone else had a theory of where when lovers die then become twins or siblings? So maybe Katherine could've been reincarnated into Emma Overland /Jack's sister?

The next book is rumored to come out November 2015, but William with his last book of the Sandman had the deadline changed at least 3 times... 
so I'm hoping the new one will be Jack Frost!
William put in Tooth's book at the very end that "...in the next book we'll get a glimpse of a young lad named Jackson Overland Frost!.."... I read the Sandman book 3 times now and there is absolutely no sign of Jack anywhere. Perhaps he will be associated with the Nightlight issue?
